The beginning of the school year can be an exciting time for both students and their parents. It also comes with its risks, as school buses, kids on bikes, and teenage drivers take to the road. To help you prepare for the new school year, we’ve put together a list of back-to-school driving tips.
Remember the school zone speed limit. When you’re driving near a school, you should make sure that you’re following the school zone’s speed limit. These limits are there to ensure that students and pedestrians can make it to school safely, so make sure you know your local laws even if speed limit signs aren’t present.
Keep an eye out. There are times when children aren’t as mindful about traffic as they should be. Whether you’re in your neighborhood or are close to a school, make sure you’re aware of children who might be getting out of cars, riding bikes, or waiting to cross roads. Also, be aware of school buses, too, and keep a safe distance and prepare for frequent stops.
Be a good example. If you have children who are getting ready to get behind the wheel themselves, make sure you show them how to drive conscientiously. Setting a good example when you drive from point A to point B will hopefully encourage them to do the same when they get behind the wheel of a car in the future.
