This year, Honda got into the April Fool’s Day spirit. The Japanese carmaker pulled the wool over everyone’s eyes by announcing on April 1st that it will be adding a new trim to the 2019 Honda Passport lineup – the Pastport.
The fictional 2019 Honda Pastport is a step back in time, offering a taste of nostalgia for older millennials thanks to its ‘90s-inspired interior. This crossover has a similar exterior to the regular Passport but, according to Honda, would offer a range of popular ‘90s features. This includes automatic power windows, a cassette player, and plush micro-fiber seats – it even has a mount for a beeper!
“From TV reboots to fashion, the ‘90s are making a huge comeback, and we saw an opportunity at Honda for consumers who want uniqueness and simplicity, so we decided to reach back and bring the Pastport to market this spring,” said Zack Tanner, historical innovations manager for Honda. “We think the new Pastport is all that and a bag of chips.”
Though you sadly won’t be able to get the Pastport trim level in real life, the actual Passport still offers a slew of features to make your day-to-day 21st century life easier. From an available all-wheel-drive system to standard safety technologies like a Collision Mitigation Braking System™, along with an abundance of interior space, the 2019 Passport is a solid option in its segment.
